OPEN POSITION: Public Health Medical Officer III or Public Health Medical Officer III (epidemiology)

The Tuberculosis Control Branch of the California Department of Public Health is recruiting for a Medical Officer and is now accepting applications.
This is an exciting opportunity in the state that reports the most tuberculosis (TB) cases in the US.  We are looking for a qualified physician to investigate and contain TB outbreaks, provide consultation on multidrug-resistant TB cases, and provide medical and epidemiologic consultation to inform development and implementation of state and national policies and guidelines.

Please see the attached statement of duties for more details. This position is based in Richmond, CA, near the Richmond Marina.  The CA Department of Public Health campus is approximately 5 miles from Berkeley and 16 miles from San Francisco. Job duties will require intermittent travel statewide.  Hiring for this position is contingent upon the removal of or an exemption to a current hiring freeze and is subject to approval by the Department’s Human Resources Branch.

To be considered for the position, a candidate must first apply through the state civil service system to become either a Public Health Medical Officer III (Epidemiology) or a Public Health Medical Officer III (see below). Applicants to the state civil service system will be considered for inclusion on job category-specific civil service lists.  Only the most highly qualified candidates selected from within the first 3 ranks of either of these category-specific lists may be invited to interview formally for this position.

Please share this email and the duty statement with candidates who may be interested.  Applicants with specific questions about this position should contact Jana Brooks, Human Resources Coordinator for the Tuberculosis Control Branch, via email at Jana.brooks@cdph.ca.gov.  You may also send a Curriculum Vitae (CV), but a CV will not be accepted in lieu of the required application materials.  Applicants MUST formally apply through the civil service system below.
