This course is for clinicians and other medical care providers who manage patients with or at risk for tuberculosis. The course will cover:
- transmission and pathogenesis
- epidemiology of tuberculosis (TB)
- laboratory methods
- TB radiology
- diagnosis, management, and treatment of TB
- treatment of latent TB infection (LTBI)
- legal and ethical issues in TB control
- TB and HIV
- pediatric TB
Course Objectives (partial list):
By the end of the course, participants will be able to describe:
- transmission and pathogenesis of M. tb
- current epidemiology of TB in the Northwest United States
- how to diagnose TB and TB infection
- the principles of TB treatment
- current screening, targeted testing, and treatment of LTBI strategies
- current laws regarding the care of TB patients
- the impact of HIV infection
Course format:
Includes lecture, discussion, and case presentations. Individuals must participate in both days of the course.

The Francis J. Curry National Tuberculosis Center is designated as a Regional Tuberculosis Training and Medical Consultation Center (RTMCC) via a funded cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Our RTMCC serves the western region which consists of fifteen jurisdictions: Alaska, California (including Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco), Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, and the U.S. Pacific Island Territories.
