For nurses, physicians, and other health professionals working as tuberculosis program managers. The course covers (partial list):

  • epidemiology of tuberculosis (TB)
  • treatment completion strategies
  • TB outbreaks
  • contact investigation
  • quality assurance
  • staff training and budgeting
  • infection control
  • program planning/grants
  • monitoring and evaluation

Course objectives (partial list):

By the end of the course, participants will be able to describe:
  • role of program manager in preventing and controlling TB
  • key components of a TB surveillance system
  • strategies for treatment completion
  • principle steps of case management
  • usage of quality assurance activities to determine staff training and supervision needs
  • legal options for managing TB patients
  • basic principles of infection control
  • program planning process: developing an evaluation plan, budget, and timeline

Course format:
Includes lecture, discussion, and case presentations. Individuals must participate in all four days of the course.

Application:

Enrollment is limited and pre-registration is required. To apply, complete and fax the application form by June 3, 2008. Applicants will receive a letter indicating whether or not they have been accepted into the course.

The course will be held at the Francis J Curry Tuberculosis Center in San Francisco, CA. Directions and details will be included in course confirmation letters.

The Francis J. Curry National Tuberculosis Center is designated as a Regional Tuberculosis course and Medical Consultation Center (RTMCC) via a funded cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Our RTMCC serves the western region which consists of fifteen jurisdictions: Alaska, California (including Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco), Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, and the U.S. Pacific Island Territories. The Center welcomes inquiries from our Western Region partners regarding course, educational products, technical assistance, and medical consultation.

The Francis J. Curry National Tuberculosis Center is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. This training is approved for 22.25 continuing education hours.
